hey there! I've noticed that this part of the forum is... well... not particularly lively? (yeeah, let's call it that.)
so in an attempt to generate interest once more, I'll put up some of the fiddling I've been doing with these guys in mind.
also, I had a thought. these 'rockbugs' like big turrets and small turrets right? so what about a DN point defense hull?
(I modeled one. it's got 32 light turrets and 5 large. [ arranged in a circle, only a max of four of the heavy turrets can bear on any one target. here, I'll post a pic:

and a cruiser PD (with 16 light turrets [In 8 batterys of 2] and three heavy turrets with limited baring

And what's this? a refinery? why, yes it is! (the bits in the middle are exhaust, not guns! this is important to note!)

Heavier PD sections? That...is an excellent idea! I'm not sure about the exact weapon numbers -- check the reference thread for what we're shooting for in terms of numbers -- but you've done a great job with these. :)

I also figured they'd be less 'tank of fuel' and more 'Giant crystalline energy capacitor' in terms of ER's and fuel-ships, thus, a DD ER (W/ four light mounts. two banks, consisting of the up/down and left/right bits. I see an race like these having a lot more PD-oriented ships, and a few BIG F&%*ING CANNON type ships, but no real 'mediums' to speak of [so you end up with lots of relatively weak ships and a few really powerful ships, but the major disadvantage is the inability to have more 'all-purpose-y' ships. you ether build something that's good at blowing up ships, or something that's goo at killing missiles/torps/etc.] so that they tend to need to expand to get production/research up to where you can deploy the heavy-hitting ships.) also, I had additional thoughts about kinetic weaponry: given that they have med-low chances for rolling them, why not reward those who do? how 'bout a spinal-mounted Impactor DD? (you'ed need the Accelerator Ampilification and spinal mounts research) It'd be like a chibi siege-driver! :bangdesk:

also, here's a thought for when people who are better at this get ahold of all this: perhaps someone could make an effect to link with fuel-tanks that arks little bolts off of the 'main' tank onto any bit that protrudes near the tank? purely for aesthetic purposes, of course. be an excellent way to represent capacitors full of energy. anyway, does anybody know a good was to get .x file into Gmax? I've hunted around, but I can't find one :( :oops:

still working. I've another cruiser-size PD section, a DD tanker, and a WIP DN War section. I figure I'll make a few variants of each thing and let you guys pick the one you like the most.

Just stopping by to mention that I approve as well. Looking forward to your work.
Don't worry TOO much on what turret loadout goes on what section, since we never came to a consensus - I wrote up a preliminary list that needs to be changed anyway, but that's about it. The Morrigi showing up took a bit of thunder out of our "unique ship design style" as it were, so it can stand some rethought.

Yeah, I kinda noticed that things like specific turret numbers per section was one of those 'not really decided' things... (other than the whole philosophy of 'medium turrets bad' thing, which works.)
so I've been going with radial/circular turret placements in my designs. I think I'm gonna make a DE freighter next. or maybe I'll hack up a DN engine section (I'm assuming nobody's made one yet) and show off a completed DN....

Very nice models, and very nice ideas. :)

Some advice given to us by the Kerberos team a while back, is to make these three complete ships to start. I'm not saying any other work should stop, just that these are good starting points.
