Re: Wiki Community Mods - Reworked
LONG time player but finally wanting to get into the whys of the game. I'm trying to learn a bit more about the modding process for SotS and what I choose to start with was, what I thought would be a simple change. A 100% research change. Now, there are different ways to view 100% - some say you can get the tech through discover through conquest, through research, or maybe there's research that's only possible through cooperation - I coop very little.
Anyway, what I've found I don't have a true and clear understanding of the mastertechlist file. Where can I get a list of exactly what all of the components of this file mean? What I'd like to do is take this example: GUN_BFG is the reward I can not see but I know it's there and I know several different techs CAN reveal it. If tech 1 has an X chance to reveal it, leave the X alone, and if tech 2 has a Y chance to reveal it, leave that chance at the current Y value, but if tech 3 has a non-guarantee 100%, then make it 100% so you can be assured that you can always count on certain things. I'm not sure if it'll skew things for playing the computer but playing multi-player, 2 or three specific things can being available to one person only and the game is essentially over.
I've tried my own and 2 other people's 100% research mods and they have not worked 100%. I've taken all 3 to where there were no tech left that I could research and still plenty existed that I couldn't see. Even simple things like Accomodate races were missing with the rest of the race techs were there.
Then again, I notice if you happen to get shielding 1, you never see shielding 2 until 1 is "learned" however if you "learn" antimatter engines, you can jump to shield 3. Basic imperfections......
If anyone else has one that works a REAL 100%, plz email it me at bandose@hotmail.com.

Sorry it took so long. I had though that Rorschach was also keeping up with approving accounts for the SotS 1 wiki. You should be able to post your mod info now.
